Westlife 'confident' over new single co-written by X Factor's Gary Barlow

Westlife have spoken bullishly about their new single Lighthouse, which has been written by Take That's Gary Barlow, claiming the X Factor judge has helped them 'throw all of the rules out of the window'.

Frontman of the Irish boyband Mark Feehily said of their comeback single: 'Lighthouse was written for us by Gary Barlow and John Shanks.' They wrote Patience for Take That so we're confident we have a great team behind our new song. I love the idea of Gary writing for us and throwing all the rules out the window.'

Feehily's bandmate Nicky Byrne added: 'Some people might think Gary would be seen as the competition but we don't at all. It's kind of cool he's written for us.'

Lighthouse will be an original track featured on the Louis Walsh-managed group's upcoming Greatest Hits album, along with standard Westlife tearjerker classics such as Flying Without Wings, World Of Our Own and Swear It Again.

Westlife have continued as a four-piece after Brian McFadden quit the band in 2004.
