Bertie Ahern’s family are planning a big birthday bash for him in Croke Park to celebrate his 60th birthday.
Mr Ahern turns 60 on September 12 but has forged ahead with plans for a glitzy celebration next Friday.
His daughters, Westwife Georgina and chick-lit bestseller Cecelia have even sent out gilt-edged invitations in the form of match tickets to friends, family and a host of guests from the world of celebrity, sport and business.
The bill for the party is expected to run into the tens of thousands depending on the numbers, entertainment and catering that he opts for.
However, true to form, Bertie won’t be picking up the tab and has turned to his millionaire daughters to foot the bill. This week, the brass-necked politician claimed he was ‘strapped’ for cash due to legal bills arising from the tribunal.
This was despite the fact that when in office, he was one of the highest paid statesman in the world and he has claimed €270,000 in expenses since he resigned as taoiseach in 2008.
However, it is understood that Georgina and Cecelia are to host and pay for the birthday bash.
Westlife – Georgina is married to Nicky Byrne – are rumoured to be lined up to sing on the night.
However, a spokesman for Mr Ahern refused to confirm or deny that the party was taking place or that Westlife would be performing.
